The Missing Link

This was done for "Project Manifest" by Satellite- SAMAS MEDIA LAB (www.samasmedialab.net)

The explanation for the banner is given below:

The absence of an element often brings more significance to its presence. This juxtaposition has been used in the photograph to symbolically represent what Satellite stands for: collect + process + transmit

When I was in Goa very recently, I came across an exposed wall of a building on the side of a road. I was intrigued and humoured to see a section of the plumbing had a pipe missing between the faucet and the emerging pipe; a very ironic state of existence of that facility.

That captured visual, today attempts to convey the core of Satellite.

as I walk along...

As I walk along, I spot a pretty silver trinket with glass beads. My eyes gleam with fascination, once again. It is rare; I have not seen anything like it before, just like a lot of other treasures lying around here. I feel the urge to possess it, to add it to my stash of fortunes. I am lost in my indecisive thoughts amidst the worldly chaos. I pause, I breathe and think; and then without a second thought, I make the purchase and carefully toss it into my bag. I look around, and now I have to choose my path and my destiny with new treasures once again.

There is an assortment of the most appealing, exquisite and inconsequential objects around me. I look to see how we transfer the beauty within us into tangibles. My attempt to purchase is no more than an effort to include that beauty in my world. Each trip is an experience, filled with memories of all sorts of distinct people, vivid colours and new treasures; no matter how old any of it is.
I am in somewhere I belong; welcome to the flea market. It is here that I get to truly enjoy a lot of things that I love doing- discovering new things, meeting new people, shopping, and learning something new. And what recurs in most in all of what I have just stated is the word ‘New’. New to me is not as in ‘brand new’ but more like ‘recently discovered’.

I dream of a day when I can travel the world to be in flea markets of every possible kind. Then there would be a day when I could conjure up my own treasures...Welcome to my one way street.
